The missing links in human exploration

In this live epicsode we ask, what are the missing links needed for human exploration of the cosmos?

In Space News we have:
* New Horizons makes it to Pluto
* Atlas V Launch with GPS Satellites
* Ariane V launches weather satellite
* XCOR to increase Lynx ticket prices
* Planerary resources Arkyd 3 Reflight (A3R) deployed
* Elon Musk to discuss Rocket on Monday

That’s a great idea, Doug. This kind of thing is really my area, too: being a bioengineer and not being an aerospace engineering guy whose three favorite things are propulsion, propulsion, and propulsion (though I do like propulsion too!) this is the area where those of us who don’t have the benefit of working for SpaceX or being Dave Masten can really contribute. I’ve been working on this kind of thing myself, at least on paper. For more info, come to my track talk at this year’s Mars Society convention (I think tentatively its at 2:30 PM on Thursday August 13) entitled “Living, Working, and Growing in Glass Houses: Materials, Architecture, and Construction methods for Martian Colony Surface Structures” where I plan to go into the materials science and structural engineering requirements for surface building on Mars.

In that vein, I’d love to see/hear your reasons and calculations for 36m and teflon, for starters!
